We’ve come full circle now. Not long ago Amir Johnson was doing his part to make the Raptors the laughing stock of the NBA by throwing his mouthguard at a referee, a dubious act for which we gave him and the team much ridicule (video is now restricted to nba.com if you haven’t already seen it).
Of course, at the time we were 4-18, injury-plagued, and losers of the previous three games by a combined 69 points (and that number could have been higher if Portland didn’t go 0 for 20 from 3-point range).
But lo, how quickly things turned around! The next game, we fought hard in a tight loss vs. the talented Brooklyn Nets. After that we crushed Dallas, edged Houston, beat the Cavs (despite the best efforts of the refs) and downed the Pistons. 4. Game. Winning. Streak!
And now, with the Raptors in full flight (sans Bargnani and Lowry, but who needs talent), Amir gets the Raptor claw painted into the back of his head. Not gonna lie, I’m psyched to see this new do on court in an hour. It’s pretty fierce, despite what Dwayne Casey may say (he said something to the order of “Amir Johnson embodies toughness, despite this new haircut”). If nothing else, I’m digging the team spirit. We’re 6 games out of a playoff spot yet no one, and I mean no one, is considering us as a playoff team. In fact, most of the talk sprouting from our hot streak has been about trading Calderon at high value.
Anyway, the Raptors go for five in a row today. So…… do you believe?
